Women's Missions News
What a crazy month September has been, with all the hurricanes and tropical storms as well as some cooler weather. That part has been nice. We are officially into Indian Summer with fall just around the corner and hopefully some calmer weather. We definitely need to keep all the people in Texas and Florida in our prayers as they work to try and resume normal lives. I know many of us have pitched in to help with either monetary donations, needed items, or assisted with the Baptist Men’s groups as they traveled to help feed the thousands.
We had an awesome meeting on Tues., Aug. 29. We accomplished a great deal and discussed several items. One item of importance presented at the annual session was the possibility of having only one associational meeting each year instead of two. The attendance is not what it once was, and it is harder to plan. It would be held in late fall or early spring.
I know Libby sent out an email to many of you in regards to the candy for the prison ministry red shoeboxes. If you can get it collected by Oct. 19th and to the associational office, it would be much appreciated. I have two groups who have expressed interest in helping us bag it, so the sooner I can get it in - the better. I need to have it all ready to go by the first Sat. in November. Remember it has to be individually wrapped hard candy. Absolutely no chocolate. Many thanks to those who were able to bring candy to the fall session. It was greatly appreciated.
We are serving the Community Inn on Thurs., Oct. 5th. We plan to serve sub sandwiches with all of the trimmings - chips, potato salad, and of course, dessert. We start at around 6:00 and would love for anyone to come, you don’t have to bring a thing except yourself.
Our fall session was held at Big Lick Baptist Church on Tues., Sept. 26. We had a great time of fellowship and learning more about the Taylor House, which we as Baptist support. Many thanks to the ladies who served as hostesses. Many thanks also to Libby for a beautiful agenda. At this time of year she always has her hands full, but always manages to come up with a beautiful layout.
We need to do some serious thinking on how we can raise more funds to help us with our scholarship if we want to continue to give it. At this point, financially, we do not have the money to totally fund it. With the Baptist Association giving us $500, the past two years, we have been able to meet the $250 difference, and unless our dues improve, we are not going to be able to do it much longer. It is something we have done for many years and I would love to see it continue, but we are going to have to do something to raise funds.
Pray for the upcoming associational meeting at Memorial on Monday, October 23, 3:00 p.m. There may be some changes on the way as far as Stanly and Montgomery associations are concerned. I spoke with Hal not long ago, and I think it could be a positive thing.
It will not affect us as a WMU group, and we could possibly be working some with Montgomery’s WMU, possibly doing some things and projects together.
I hope each of you have a wonderful fall and enjoy the world of changing color that God gives us at this time of year. May each of you continue to be blessed in His service.
